Pellet Stoves Recalled due to Fire Hazard

recalled pellet stoveUnited States Stove Company is recalling 4,400 units of the HomComfort 2400 24K BTU Pellet Heater/Stoves because the internal fire box baffle can degrade, overheat, and pose a fire hazard. There have not been any known related injuries, but the company has received 16 reports of fire and property damage.

The recalled stoves were sold at Northern Tool, Orsheln, Orgill Brothers and Rural King home heating retailers and online at www.HomeDepot.com, www.Lowes.com and www.NorthernTool.com from April 2010 through March 2012 for about $1000. The stoves are used as window mounted heating appliances. They are made of steel and grey polycarbonate, and they measure just under two feet wide. The CPSC notice includes a list of serial numbers associated with the recall.

Consumers should immediately unplug these pellet stoves, stop using them, and return the circuit board and serial face plate to the firm for $868 cash or $1,200 credit towards the purchase of  any United States Stove Company product.
