Northwest EMC Prepares to Open a New Testing Lab in Bothell, Washington

Less than two years after opening a new SAR lab at its Hillsboro, Oregon testing facility, industry-leading EMC and EMI test provider Northwest EMC is busy preparing for the opening of the company’s fifth testing lab in Bothell, Washington.

The new Washington EMC testing lab will provide full EMC and EMI testing services to help serve the greater Seattle region, including Wireless EMC testing, RTCA DO-160, and MIL-STD 461. The addition of the company’s fifth lab follows springtime renovations at the company’s Irvine, California testing facility.

“In order to create the best possible experience for our customers, it’s imperative that we continually improve our testing capabilities, our facilities and our testing equipment,” says Northwest EMC President Dean Ghizzone. “The new Bothell location will offer testing to complement our other testing services and helps us provide the premium service we’re known for to a larger geographic area.”

This philosophy can be seen throughout the Northwest EMC family of testing labs, as updates and improvements are an ongoing priority for the business. Northwest EMC opened its Minnesota lab in 2009 followed by the SAR lab in 2011.  The SAR testing addresses the equipment authorization process that manufactures are required to ensure their devices comply with limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy. For devices used closer than 20 cm to the head or body, the limits are given in terms of the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR).  In order to improve its automotive testing capabilities, the company renovated its Irvine, California location in spring of 2012.

“We’re on the move and each new location and each new capability is exciting for us,” notes Ghizzone, “giving us a chance to broaden our scope and help more people bring their products to market quickly.”

The opening of the new Bothell location is scheduled for fall 2012.
