NHTSA Considers Standards for Vehicle Electronics

NHTSA Considers Standards for Vehicle Electronics | In Compliance Magazine

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is considering enforcing vehicle electronic requirements and has asked major automakers if voluntary standards for vehicle electronics are sensible. The agency is currently evaluating “hazards associated with electronic control systems that could impact a vehicle’s steering, throttle, braking, and motive power.”  They are also researching new electronic-related regulations. Dozens of recalls due to electronic issues have been issued this year by automakers, with most of the recalls being resolved by a software update.
