New Module Ideal for High-Energy Advance Physics Requirements

KeysightKeysight Technologies, Inc. introduced the M9709A 8-bit high-speed digitizer, providing 32 synchronous channels of 1 GS/s sampling in a single module. The M9709A, the industry’s unrivaled high-density solution, is ideal for multichannel applications in advanced physics experiments such as hydrodynamics, plasma fusion (Tokamak/Stellarator), particle physics and microwave astronomy.

The M9709A is a single-slot AXIe module, with 32 channels at 1 GS/s sampling rate and 16 channels at 2 GS/s when interleaved. The module can provide more than 500 MHz analog bandwidth. The digitizer also enables long acquisitions with its very large on-board memory of up to 16 GB.

To ensure high throughput, the digitizer provides a four-lane (x4) PCI Express Gen 2 backplane, enabling sustained data transfer rates of up to 1.2 GB/s. With four on-board Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGAs, the M9709A high-speed DAQ also optimizes measurement throughput and supports future customized implementations of high-performance data processing.

“This new AXIe digitizer dramatically simplifies the creation of very dense data acquisition systems that include a large number of high-speed synchronous channels with a large set of full-scale range to maximize the user dynamic range,” said Pierre-François Maistre, R&D project manager, Keysight Software and Modular Solutions. “In advanced applications such as high-energy physics experiments, the M9709A provides excellent measurement fidelity from DC to 500 MHz analog bandwidth with up to 6.9 effective bits, 52 dBc spurious-free dynamic range and 44 dB signal-to-noise ratio, which unlock unique insight into your measurements.

The M9709A AXIe digitizer extends high-speed digitizers family and the Keysight’s portfolio of AXIe based modular products. With an offer of several AXIe chassis (2- or 5-slot), the module provides a fully operational system of up to 96 channels depending on the chassis configuration.
