New IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee on Transportation Formed

New IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee on Transportation Formed | In Compliance Magazine

IEEE has announced the creation of a new committee to lead global efforts to foster the future of transportation to be more connected, automated, intelligent, and electronic. The IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee on Transportation (IEEE SCC42 Transportation) is supported by more than 30 IEEE Societies and Councils and will support transportation standards, assist adoption, and increase interoperability throughout the entire transportation ecosystem.

The IEEE SCC42 Transportation will begin its global collaboration effort at the 2014 International Conference on Connected Vehicles and Expo (ICCVE) in Vienna, Austria. The committee will be hosting several sessions and workshops to collect input from industry participants regarding transportation business models, standardization methods, and data trends.

For optimal performance in over-the-air RF systems, antennas must meet specific requirements. Performance parameters like size, wind-loading, environmental ruggedness, transmission pattern, bandwidth, and power handling capability should be considered. Methods of measuring the transmission (or reception) pattern that determines antenna gain with a VNA will be examined in this article.
