A total of 15,730 commercial trucks are being recalled because a problem with the accelerator pedal sensor can make it difficult for the trucks to slow down in certain conditions. The recall includes International brand trucks built with Navistar engines, manual transmission, and a certain accelerator pedal. In these trucks, the accelerator pedal position sensor can move slightly on the mounting bracket if the pedal is pushed with extra force. This can change the sensor signal output and result in a high engine idle which would make downshifting difficult. If a loaded truck is going down a long grade, the inability to down shift could hinder the truck’s ability to slow down, and therefore increase the risk of a crash.
Starting January 18, 2016, Navistar will recall 2013-2014 International trucks, including the Durastar, Lonestar, Prostar, Transtar, and Workstar models. Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will recalibrate the electronic control module (ECM) to allow it to recognize that the pedal is at the idle position, free of charge.
