NATO Scientists Develop Golden Eye-style Beam

Researchers working as part of NATO’s Science and Technology Organization have developed a device that uses an intense pulse of electromagnetic energy that can be directed at a moving vehicle to interfere with the electronics on board.

Tests have demonstrated the device has been used to stop a car approaching a roadblock and could potentially be used to thwart suicide bomb attacks. It has also been tested to disable other electronic devices such as mobile phones that may be used to remotely trigger a bomb.

The project code-named SCI-250 is the latest advance in non-lethal weapons being researched by military scientists around the world.

Watch a NATO video that shows the different uses of the beam.
