Dina Katabi is one of the 24 people who were awarded a MacArthur Grant – often referred to as the “genius grant” – early this week by the MacArthur Foundation. A professor at MIT in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, she is using electrical engineering to improve speed, reliability and security of data exchange.
Professor Katabi has contributed to a variety of networking issues, from protocols to minimize congestion in high-bandwidth networks to algorithms for spectrum analysis. She has also enhanced the study of WiFi systems and works with students to show how these signals can be used to track movements of humans behind walls and in a closed room.
