Millions of Vehicles Added to Takata’s Air Bag Recall

As investigations into Takata’s defective air bag inflators continues, the list of recalled vehicles just keeps growing. Throughout February, the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) added many new models to the 28 million vehicles involved in the U.S. recall. Millions of additional vehicles worldwide are also affected by the same defective air bags inflators, which can explode, sending metal shrapnel flying into the vehicle, causing serious injury or even death. So far, NHTSA reports that more than seven million air bags have already been repaired. Still, millions of vehicles remain at risk, and the following vehicles have now been added to the widespread recall.

• BMW is recalling 840,000 units of dozens of 2006-2015 models.
• Daimler Vans adds 136,361 vehicles to the list, including model year 2007-2014 Dodge, Freightliner, and Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500.
• Volkswagen is now recalling: 2006 Volkswagen Passat sedans and wagons, 2005-2013 Audi A3, and 2006-2009 Audi A4 Cabriolet vehicles, 2010-2014 Golf and Jetta SportWagen, 2007-2010 Passat sedans and wagon, 2012-2014 Passat sedan and Eos, 2009-2014 CC, 2009-2012 Audi Q5, and 2010-2011 Audi A5 Cabriolet vehicles.
• Mercedes-Benz is recalling 711,266 vehicles, including certain 2006-2007 Chrysler models and 2005-2014 Mercedes Benz models, such as the Cabriolet, Blue Tec, and more than a dozen additional models.
• General Motors now adds certain 2003-2011 Saab sedans and 2008-2009 Saturn Astras to the recall.
