Mastercraft Outdoor Extension Cords Recalled by Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited

Canadian Tire Corporation, Ltd. has issued a recall for Mastercraft 50′ and 100′, 12/3 gauge, 3-tap, outdoor extension cords. The prongs have been incorrectly inserted into the mould, which can produce sparks from the female end of the cord, posing a risk of injury.

This recall involves the Mastercraft 50 foot (15 m) and 100 foot (30.48 m), 12/3 gauge, 3-tap, outdoor extension cords. Impacted products can be identified by the four-digit batch code located on the male end, with the first two digits indicating the month and the last two indicating the year the product was manufactured.  All products manufactured between October 2015 and February 2017 will be included in the recall. The recalled products were certified by UL with certification file number E184278.

Approximately 132,175 units of the affected products were sold in Canada. The company has received four reports of sparks coming from the female end of the cord.

Consumers should immediately stop using the affected Mastercraft 50′ and 100′ 12/3 gauge, 3-tap, Outdoor Extension Cords and return the product to their local Canadian Tire store for a refund.
