Major Changes For Solar PV Industry From Revised WEEE Directive

After an 18 month transitional period to implementing the updated Waste, Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) into EU national law, major changes will effecting the photo voltaic (PV) solar panel market.

The introduction of PV modules was added in the latest WEEE directive revision in 2012. With the commencement of new changes beginning on January 1, 2014, only two countries, UK and Bulgaria, have incorporated the changes into national law. Under the new directive, PV manufacturers will have to certify the collection and recycling of discarded solar panels and also ensure the financial future of waste management for PV.
