“Local Warming” System Creates Personalized Climates Around Individuals

MIT researchers are using WiFi-based motion tracking and ceiling-mounted dynamic heating elements to create a system that generates personalized climates around individuals as a substitute to heating entire buildings.

Using WiFi-based location tracking technology, developed by an MIT professor and her team, researchers used this technology to calculate the location and trajectory of a person when they enter a room. This information is then transmitted to dynamic heating elements located near the ceiling, and they are able to follow a person as they move throughout the room creating a personalized climate around the person.
