Retailers who are selling Bluetooth enabled selfie sticks may be facing fines up to $27,000 and possible jail time due to these devices not being properly tested. Selfie sticks are monopods that allow mobile phone users to hold their phone away from them to take a selfie from a distance.
The Korean Ministry of Science claims that these devices fall into the category of “frequency-emitting communications equipment” and should be tested more rigorously to confirm they are safe for the public. In addition to the possible fines and jail time, the South Korean government is asking citizens to report illegal sales of these devices.
