Joint US-Japanese Research Projects to Support Next-Generation Network Technology

The first seven awards provided by the Japan-U.S. Network Opportunity (JUNO) program were announced last month by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Japan National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT).

These projects will study necessary properties of next-generation computer networks and how to scale these networks to support the increase in network-connected devices. The JUNO awards will support optical networking, mobile computing and network design and modeling. The NSF is funding U.S researchers while the NICT is supporting Japanese researchers.
