IEEE Introduces New Standard for the Evaluation of Wearable, Cuffless Blood-Pressure Devices

Blood Pressure Monitoring | In Compliance Magazine

The IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society has announced the introduction of a new standard to address a gap in e-health for evaluating wearable, cuffless blood-pressure devices. The standard, IEEE 1708™, applies to all types of these devices regardless of how they operate.

The standard offers guidelines for manufacturers to qualify and certify their technology, and how potential buyers can evaluate this technology. Additional guidelines are included for healthcare professionals on how to accurately calibrate devices and university to developing testing procedures. IEEE 1708™ is part of the growing IEEE e-health standards that support life-saving technology through traditional medical devices and new personal health devices.
