IEEE Approves Standard to Support Smart-Grid Applications

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has approved 1901.2 standard to support low-frequency, narrowband power-line communications and smart-grid applications.

The standard was sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society’s Power-Line Communications Standards Committee and supports the balanced and efficient use of power-line communications (PLC) channel by all classes of low-frequency and narrowband devices. IEEE 1901.2 will raise the performance bar with mandatory differential and robust coherent modulation with added enhancements for increased data rates greater than 300kbps.
