High Tech Soccer Field Harnesses Energy from Players to Power Lights

Kinetic Tiles Power Soccer Field Lights | In Compliance Magazine

An empty lot in a small neighborhood of Rio de Janerio, Brazil was turned into a high-tech soccer field that uses 200 tiles that harness energy from players running across the field. The energy captured is used to power floodlights for night-time play.

The energy-capturing tiles use a system of cogs, where the cogs spin like top and perform like a generator. This is the first time these tiles were used on a soccer field while the technology has been implemented in airports, shopping complexes, and other high foot traffic locations.
