High School Students Design One-Person Electric Vehicles

High school students are gaining hands-on experience designing and building an electric vehicle through the “Power Drive” electric car program.  Through the program, students from across Nebraska compete in vehicle braking, maneuverability and endurance.

Each team starts with a standard vehicle and the students modify the vehicles for more power and endurance.  The program provides mentors and technical support to the students when necessary. The program has been in existence since 1998 and is sponsored by the Nebraska Public Power District and the Omaha Public Power District.
