On June 12, 2016 the new Radio Equipment Directive (RED), 2014/53/EU replaced the previous Radio and Telecommunication Terminal (R&TTE) Directive. This update of Europe’s single market rules for radio equipment was published in May 2014. ETSI has developed Harmonized European Standards to support the Directive. The Commission will reference the Harmonized Standards in the Official Journal of the European Union, and equipment that complies with the Harmonized Standards will be presumed to comply with the requirements of the Directive.
ETSI has published 53 of these Harmonized Standards so far, and 143 more are expected to be published within the next year. The standards were developed by technical committees, especially the committee for Electromagnetic compatibility and Radio spectrum Matters (TC ERM). Details about published and in progress standards is publicly available in ETSI’s online work programme for the Radio Equipment Directive.
