Guidance on New WEEE Regulations Issued by BIS

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) is preparing businesses for upcoming changes to the WEEE System and guidance on how these new regulations will apply and what businesses will need to do to meet their obligations. The new regulations are scheduled to be in effect on January 1, 2014.

The guidance is aimed at electronic producers, retailers, waste management firms, local authorities, producer compliance schemes and WEEE recyclers and explains the requirements of the draft Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013. Additional details on how each producer compliance scheme’s obligation will be calculated are included in the guidance and BIS explains how the schemes will be made aware of their collection requirements.
