The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a flight advisory in California for certain dates in June because of interference testing that could disrupt GPS signals. The military is testing GPS jamming devices above China Lake, which is part of the Navy’s 1.1 million acre Naval Air Weapons Center in the Mojave Desert. Aircraft within hundreds of miles of the lake could experience lost signals.
The tests will take place for six hours per day (from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm) on June 7, 9, 21, 23, 28, and 30th. During this time, the jamming is expected to affect aircraft that are flying above 50 feet. The FAA didn’t share many details about the tests, but the military seems to be testing devices that can intentionally interfere with an enemy’s GPS system.
