Freightliners Recalled for HVAC Problems

Freightliner Cascadia by raymondclarkeimagesDaimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling 8,865 semi-trailer trucks because a faulty component in the truck’s air conditioner can increase the risk of fire. The recall includes model year 2015-2016 Freightliner Cascadia trucks. The affected vehicles are equipped with Bergstrom Parksmart HVAC auxiliary units. On these units, there may be inadequate contact between the electrical connector on the compressor and electrical pins causing a high electrical resistance resulting in excessive heat that could cause a fire.

Inadequate contact between the mating surfaces of the electrical connector on the compressor end of the harness and the electrical pins on the top of the compressor can result in locally high electrical resistance and/or localized electrical arcing resulting in excessive heat at this interface.

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the connector caps. Additionally, dealers will replace the harnesses if there is evidence of heat discoloration.
