Flashlights Recalled Due to Burn Hazard

Spectrum Brands, Inc. of Middleton, WI is recalling more than 200,000 of its Rayovac-brand flashlights manufactured in Indonesia.

According to the company, the flashlight can cause the batteries to overheat and melt the flashlight’s plastic casing, posing a burn hazard to consumers. Spectrum says it has received 12 separate reports of flashlights overheating and melting as a result. However, there have been no injuries or property damage related to the reports of overheating.

The recalled flashlights were sold through a wide range of retails stores nationwide, and online at www.rayovac.com and other websites from September 2012 through December 2013 for about $2 dollars. Spectrum estimates that about 225,000 units were sold in the U.S., with an additional 7,000 in Canada.
