Fire Hazard Prompts Recall of Swimming Pool Ultraviolet Sanitation Systems

Trident Ultraviolet Corporation is recalling more than 3,600 sanitation systems for pools due to fire hazard caused by electrical arcing that can cause the units to catch fire. The recall is for all Trident Series 2 systems.

The systems are either plugged into an electrical outlet or hard-wired into the electrical system and water runs through the unit to be sanitized by UV lamps. The units are gray tubes that are 32 inches high and 11 inches in diameter with a black label on the front of the unit. The company has received 38 reports of units melting or catching fire, 1 burn injury and approximately $23,000 in property damage.
