Fiat 500e Vehicles Recalled for Electrical Issue

Chrysler is recalling 16,549 model year 2013-2016 Fiat 500e vehicles to repair the cars’ electrical system. The power inverter module (PIM) may experience voltage spikes which can cause the propulsion system to shut down and cause a loss of motive power, which increases the risk of a crash. A federal safety defect report explains:

Some 2013-2016MY Fiat 500e (“FF”) vehicles may experience voltage transients on the power inverter module (“PIM”) ground line which may result in Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P1AEE and/or P0A1B. If set, the DTC(s) will shut down the propulsion system leading to a loss of motive power.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the PIM software, free of charge. Interim notices will be sent to owners in June 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy software becomes available.
