As part of its ongoing effort to ensure that its regulations align with technical issues covered in new and updated standards, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has updated its rules to incorporate four new standards under its equipment authorization program.
In a Report and Order, the Commission has listed four new standards that can be used by FCC-recognized accredited laboratories to evaluate equipment for conformity with FCC requirements. The newly incorporate standards include the following:
- ANSI C63-25.1-2018, “American National Standard-Validation Methods for Radiated Emission Test Sites;”
- ANSI C63.10-2020, “American National Standard of Procedures for Compliance Testing of Unlicensed Wireless Devices;”
- ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (E), “General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories;” and
- ANSI C63.4a-2017, “American National Standard for Methods of Measurement of Radio-Noise Emissions from Low-Voltage Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Range of 9 kHz to 40 GHz, Amendment 1: Test Site Validation.”
The FCC’s Report and Order also includes a number of changes to currently referenced standards, mostly addressing obsolete references. The complete list of the additions and changes is in Appendix A of the Report and Order.
