FCC to Retire Legacy CORES Database

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced plans to discontinue access to its legacy online database for filing and tracking certain applications, including amateur radio applications and licenses.

According to a posting on the website of the ARRL, the FCC will “retire” the original version of its Commission Registration System (CORES) on July 15th. As of that date, users of the legacy CORES platform will be redirected to the updated CORES website.

Since its original implementation, the CORES database has enabled amateur radio operators to file for and obtain licenses in a matter of days instead of weeks. Launched in 2016, the updated CORES database provides even more features than the legacy system, allowing users to organize their applications, licenses, and other FCC authorizations under a single FCC Registration Number (FRN).
