FCC Releases 2019 Broadband Deployment Data

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released its latest data on the deployment of fixed broadband services across the U.S.

According to a press release issued by the FCC last week, the Commission’s Office of Economics and Analytics has now updated its database with broadband deployment data through the end of 2019. Access to the FCC’s database on fixed broadband deployment, including an interactive map showing available data by location, is available at the FCC’s website.

The latest data shows continued progress in the Commission’s efforts to promote universal access to broadband connections. The data indicates that the number of Americans living in areas without access to broadband with speeds of at least 25/3 Mbps (the Commission’s threshold speeds for high-speed broadband services), is down by 46% from the data available at the end of 2016. Even more reassuring, the number of rural Americans living in areas with access to services providing broadband speeds of at least 250/25 Mbps has increased 268% since the end of 2016.

The FCC’s press release also notes the initiation of a new Rural Digital Opportunity Fund auction, a major agency initiative that FCC Chair Ajit Pai estimates could bring broadband services to more than 10 million additional Americans living in rural America.
