FCC Proposes Robocall Scorecard

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is seeking public comment on a proposed tool for consumers intended to support more informed choices regarding their voice service providers.

According to a Public Notice issued by the Commission in early September, the proposed Robocall Scorecard would provide consumers with rating criteria for a composite set of metrics that reflect both operational practices and measurable outcomes. Scores for each of the planned metrics would reflect whether a given provider’s efforts to protect consumers from illegal robocalls are having the intended effect.

The FCC is seeking comments on which providers, including wireless, wireline, and VoIP providers, should receive Scorecard ratings. The Commission is also inviting input on the sources of data that can be used to support the Scorecard’s accuracy, as well as what types of metrics should be employed for use in the Scorecard.
