After a four-year hiatus, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has launched a new spectrum auction, offering access to 5G-grade spectrum essential to wireless services.
According to a press release, Auction 113 (as it’s formally known) makes available spectrum licenses in the 1695-1710 MHz, 1755-1780 MHz, and 2155-2180 MHs bands. The license areas included in the auction cover geographic areas in the U.S. with more than 100 million consumers, including major U.S. cities like New York, Chicago, Boston, Tampa, and Charlotte.
The latest FCC spectrum auction provides access to licenses that were originally made available for auction for commercial use back in 2014. However, a number of the bids made during that auction were withdrawn or defaulted, leaving 200 licenses unsold.
