FCC Issues Notice of Unlicensed Radio Operation and Harmful Interference

Continuing the agency’s strong enforcement efforts to protect essential radio transmissions, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has ordered the owners of a spa in West Palm Beach, Florida to immediately cease operation of a device that was interfering with AT&T FirstNet’s cellular network.

According to a “Notification of Unlicensed Operation and Notice of Harmful Interference,”  agents from the Miami office of the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau responded to an interference complaint made by AT&T FirstNet. Using direction-finding techniques, their investigation identified a Bluetooth speaker located at Asian Touch Spa that was the source of the interference.

When requested by the agents, employees at the Spa turned off the speaker that was determined to be the source. The agents were later able to confirm that the interference to AT&T FirstNet’s cellular network had ceased as a result.

Mastering High Voltage: The Importance of Accurate Test Equipment

This whitepaper underscores that precise calibration of high-voltage test gear — especially when measuring 1 kV–150 kV systems — is essential for safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. It details measurement techniques (voltage dividers, step-down transformers, etc.), the impact of environmental and connection factors on accuracy, and why traceable calibration (e.g. to NIST / A2LA) is a must to ensure consistent, reliable results.
