The Enforcement Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is continuing its efforts to combat unlicensed radio operations.
In the New York metro area, a Paterson, NJ man, Winston Tullock, received a Notice of Unlicensed Operation in response to complaints of unlicensed FM radio station operations. The unlicensed radio operations were confirmed by agents of the New York Office of the FCC Enforcement Bureau using direction finding techniques.
In a separate instance, Greenpoint Aerospace of Denton, TX received a Notice in connection with complaints from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about interference to its Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS). A subsequent investigation by an agent from the Enforcement Bureau’s Dallas Office determined that the interference was caused by unauthorized testing of the TCAS by the company.
The operators cited in the Notices were warned that unlicensed operation of radio transmitting equipment is a violation of Federal laws, which could subject them to financial penalties and criminal sanctions, including imprisonment.
