FCC Enforcement Bureau Issues Warnings About Pirate Radio Ops

In the latest round of enforcement activity intended to stem illegal radio broadcasting, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued warnings to 13 landowners in the New York metropolitan area for allowing pirate radio broadcasts from their properties.

According to a press release issued by the FCC in mid-July, Notices of Illegal Pirate Radio Broadcasting were sent to landowners in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, as well as in Spring Valley, NY, and in Newark and Irvington, NJ. The Notices inform the landowners of their potential liability for continuing to permit pirate radio transmissions on their property and require proof that the illegal transmissions have been terminated.

In addition, the Notices request information regarding the identity of the individual(s) engaged in the illegal broadcasts.
