The plan to propose to end the ban on phone calls during commercial flights was announced on November 21st by FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler. After the proposed plan was released, Wheeler issued a statement that “I feel that way myself” after provoking complaints from flight attendants, fliers and lawmakers.
Chairman Wheeler received more than 200 e-mails objecting the proposed plan, an online petition from the White House received over 1,000 signatures and members of Congress from both parties discussed blocking the proposal with legislation. The proposal faces an initial vote at a December 12th FCC meeting and will then be subjected to another vote following a public comment period before going into effect.
