Following a December 2013 notice, efco is extending the recall of their Gas Trimmers. The muffler on the engine can break during use and pose a fire hazard. There have been 11 reports of muffler failure, including two that resulted in singed hair. The trimmers were sold at authorized efco dealers and Menard retail stores in the U.S. and Canada and online from June 2009 to July 2014 for about $400.
Efco’s Gas Trimmers are used for cutting grass and light brush. They have a trimmer head and a metal blade attachments. They are about 72 inches long and are red and gray with either a mike or loop handle. The model number and “efco” are printed on the front of the engine, and the brand name also appears on the wand. See the full CPSC recall for additional identifiers. Consumers should stop using the trimmers right away and return them to an authorized efco dealer for a free replacement.
