Design Engineer – Weak link or Warrior in ESD Battle- Ginger
Hansel

Protect your valuable test chips, prototype engineering samples
and circuit boards with specific knowledge on safely handling the physical
devices. HBM and CDM sensitivity thresholds continue to fall based on Industry
Council confidence in ESD control capabilities in Manufacturing, however many
engineering labs do not understand the potential jeopardy created by the lower
thresholds. Anyone doing device testing, characterization, TLP stress testing,
board-level analysis, or upgrading their computer should know basic ESD control
techniques. This seminar will include practical ESD control tips for
engineering labs and how-to set-up and monitor a comprehensive ESD control
program. Real-world examples will show the increased ESD risk of charged board
events (CBE), the surprising damage due to hand tools, and how to use event
detectors to identify ESD threats.

You have spent a lot of effort
doing careful designs – now take good care of those test chips, prototype
engineering samples and circuit boards.

Learning Outcomes

Attendees will be able to:

•      Implement
well designed, passive ESD controls for 80% of the benefit with only 20% of the
hassle.

•      Understand
the additional requirements and monitoring needed for a comprehensive ESD
Control Program •     Discover how ESD event detectors
reveal eye-opening problems in development and test labs

•      Learn
how commonly used screwdrivers can cause high failure rates by injecting
currents as high as 7 Amps

•      Examine
real world examples that demonstrate how circuit boards are often more
sensitive than individual

components
