European Commission Report Fails to Find Link between Health Risks Associated with Electricity Pylons

A new report released from the European Commission could not find a conclusive link that exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) from electricity pylons causes a health risk.

The report stated that EMF exposure comes from many sources and occurs in everyday situations and while man-made static fields are primarily found in industrial environments, the report also stated “high-voltage overhead transmission lines are being constructed which will expose larger parts of the population to static electric and magnetic fields.”

A public consultation has been initiated by the European Commission and the Scientific Committee on Emerging Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR). The committee is asking for feedback from individuals and stakeholders in the scientific community on the risk assessment related to the exposure to EM fields and the potential health effects.
