EU Commission Updates RED Standards List (Again!)

As the final transition date for the EU’s Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU, also known as the RED) comes into view, the EU Commission is rapidly adding to the list of standards that can be used to demonstrate compliance with the essential requirements of the Directive.

An updated list of nearly 70 different standards was published in the March 17 issue of the Official Journal of the European Union (14 more than the prior list published on February 10). Read the updated list that supersedes and replaces the February list as well as all previously published versions.

The RED replaced the EU’s R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EC) in June 2016, with the one year transition period slated to expire on June 13, 2017. While similar in many respects to the R&TTE Directive, the RED addresses a broader range of topics and complements many of the requirements of the EU’s recast EMC and Low Voltage Directives.
