EU Commission Issues Potentially Last Update to RED Standards List Before End of Transition Period

With the expiration of the transition to the EU’s Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU) just a few weeks away, the EU Commission has issued what may well be the last updated list of standards that can be used to demonstrate compliance with the essential requirements of the Directive as of June 14, 2017.

A newly updated list of more than 110 different standards was published in the May 12th issue of the Official Journal of the European Union. The latest list reflects the addition of more than 50 standards over the past three months, and more than 10 more than the prior list published on April 12th. The updated list supersedes and replaces the April list as well as all previously published versions.

The RED replaced the EU’s R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EC) in June 2016, with the one year transition period slated to expire on June 13, 2017. While similar in many respects to the R&TTE Directive, the RED addresses a broader range of topics and complements many of the requirements of the EU’s recast EMC and Low Voltage Directives.
