EU Commission Issues Another Update to RED Standards List

As the final transition date for the EU’s Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU, also known as the RED) comes into view, the EU Commission continues to add to the list of standards that can be used to demonstrate compliance with the essential requirements of the Directive.

A newly updated list of approximately 100 different standards was published in the April 12th issue of the Official Journal of the European Union (about 30 more than the prior list published on March 17, and about 44 more than the list published in February). The updated list supersedes and replaces the March list as well as all previously published versions.

The RED replaced the EU’s R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EC) in June 2016, with the one year transition period slated to expire on June 13, 2017. While similar in many respects to the R&TTE Directive, the RED addresses a broader range of topics and complements many of the requirements of the EU’s recast EMC and Low Voltage Directives.
