A team of two engineers developed a line of high-tech gym clothing equipped with wearable electromyography (EMG) technology that can sense the activity of muscle fibers during a workout. The micro-EMG sensors are woven into the garment to measure muscle effort and can wirelessly transmit data back to the core processor for further analysis of performance based indicators.
When muscles are engaged, the muscle fibers release an electrical signal that can be recorded and measure. The sensors then measure what muscles are contracting and to what degree. The data collected is transmitted to a Bluetooth device that communicates with a smartphone app. The information collected provides people with real-time feedback, serving as a personalized trainer and guide for avoiding injury and optimizing the fitness experience.
