General Motors has issued a recall for several models due to insulation on the engine block heater cord become damaged in cold weather. When the insulation is damaged, bare wires can be exposed, posing an electrical shock risk if the cord is touched when it is plugged in.
Approximately 3,000 vehicles are included in the recall and were manufactured between May 2011 and September 2013. The recalled models include the Buick Encore, Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze, and Chevrolet Sonic. General Motors will begin to notify owners and dealers of the recall. To remedy the issue, a new cord that is rated for temperatures of minus 40 degrees Celsius will replace the current heater cord on engine blocks.
