Electric baseboard/fan heater thermostats recalled

Honeywell International, Inc. of Morris Township, NJ is recalling about 77,000 electric baseboard and fan heater thermostats manufactured in Singapore.

Honeywell reports that the thermostats can overheat, causing them to melt and smoke, thereby posing a burn hazard to consumers. The company says that it has received 16 reports of thermostats melting, but no reports of injuries or property damage.

The recalled thermostats were sold through home improvement stores, HVAC and electrical stores, and contractors from January 2000 through December 2007 for between $80 and $300.
