Eighth Edition of UL 217, Standard for Smoke Alarm

smoke alarmUL has released a new edition of ANSI/UL 217, the standard for fire alarms. The seventh edition was published earlier this year, and this revision of the Standard for Smoke Alarms is being issued to include the following new requirements: New Flaming Polyurethane Foam Test, New Smoldering Polyurethane Foam Test, New Cooking Nuisance Smoke Test. The eighth edition can now be purchased on UL’s website.

“These requirements cover electrically operated single and multiple station smoke alarms intended for open area protection in indoor locations and portable smoke alarms used as “travel” alarms in accordance with:
a)    National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, NFPA 72;

2)    AC and DC Electrical Systems on Boats, ABYC E-11, and

3)    The applicable regulations of the United States Coast Guard.”
