Department of Telecom Announces Development of Website for Real-Time EMF Radiation

cell-towers

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has announced the development of a new website that will display real-time electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation from each mobile tower in India. In an effort to drive public awareness, the web portal will feature compliance status, EMF radiation, standards and other related information.

The web portal will provide public access to compliance status and information pertaining to EMF international guidelines and standards. The project pilot is estimated to take three months with an additional six to eight months to build the online portal with complete compliance information and health hazard related data. The DoT will be using the help of Telecom Enforcement Resource and Monitoring (TERM) cells to measure EMF radiation of the telecom towers that will be submitted to the site. There are approximately 700,000 towers and base transceiver stations (BTS) for cellular networks currently within the country.
