Deadline set for Public Comments for UHF TV Discount

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has set a comment deadline for its proposal to eliminate the UHF discount. Comments will be due no later than December 16, 2013 with reply comments due no later than January 13, 2014.

The transition from analog to digital spectrum has made UHF signals stronger than VHF and most viewers now receive broadcast signals from a pay-TV distributor and not an antenna on a roof, makes the UHF discount seem outdated. The discount meant that the FCC only counted half of UHF TV stations audience towards the 39% cap on national audience for any broadcast TV group.
