The U.S.-China Green Electronics Competition was announced earlier this week to raise awareness of the harmful effects on human and environmental health when e-waste is not properly handled and recycled.
The competition is challenging U.S. and Chinese manufacturers to take yesterday’s electronics and transform it into tomorrow’s technology. Every year, approximately 50 million tons of e-waste are produced, but only 15-20% is recycled. The challenge focuses on uncycling or converting an electronic product into a new electronic product, creating a sustainable product or creating artwork from used electronics.
