Company recalls Christmas trees for fire hazard

CKI Bethlehem Lights of Taunton, MA has voluntarily recalled about 15,500 of its artificially lit Christmas trees manufactured in China and sold through television retailer QVC.

According to information released by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Christmas tree base can overhead, posing a fire hazard. QVC has reportedly received 30 reports of the tree base overheating, melting or smoking, but has not received any reports of injuries.

The recalled Christmas trees were sold through QVC from July through November 2011 for between $320 and $398, depending on the tree size.
