The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has extended until this Friday, January 18th, the period for filing comments in connection with a petition that would lift certain restrictions on the deployment of cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technology.
Originally filed by the 5G Automotive Association in November, the petition seeks a waiver from the FCC that would allow C-V2X technologies to operate in the 5.9 GHz band. In early December, the Association of Global Automakers, Inc. and the Intelligent Transportation Society of America formally requested a 15-day extension to the public comment period for the petition. That request was based on the fact that a number of potential respondents to the petition would be attending the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), held January 8-11, where automotive technologies would be featured.
In its December 31st decision regarding the request to extend the public comment period, the Commission noted that such extensions are not routinely granted, but that a limited extension was warranted to support the development of the fullest possible record in connection with the petition. Accordingly, the Commission granted a seven-day extension.
