Chroma Systems Solutions announced its participation in NASA’s Artemis II mission through deployment of its Chroma 17020 Battery Test System, used to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of the Orion crew capsule’s battery systems. The system’s precision and programmability allowed NASA engineers to simulate real world mission conditions and assess how Orion’s batteries would perform under mission critical scenarios.
The Chroma 17020 tested battery components tied directly to crew safety and was integrated into the launch tower to support validation up to final countdown. Orion relies on high performance lithium ion batteries to power communication, navigation, and propulsion systems, particularly during eclipse periods when solar charging is unavailable, including four primary batteries in the crew module and specialized batteries in the launch abort system.
